Bluegrass Band

Kerbela Temple Bluegrass Band Bio

The Kerbela Temple Bluegrass Band was formed in 1992 by a group of Shriners who enjoyed the music. The band was chartered as a unit in August 1992 with Illustrious Sir “Podjo” Kinsers’ blessing.

The band was in the studio by March 1993 and recorded their first project.  They played at mostly at shrine functions at first and then began playing more in public.

1994 was a great year for the band. They played 38 shows all over the southeast. Some of the places included The International Hillbilly convention in Cocoa Beach, Florida, the Fiddlers Festival in Huntsville, Alabama and The Carter County Shrine Club Bluegrass Festival in Olive Hill, Kentucky. That year they were named “Unit of the Year” at Kerbela Temple.

Over time members changed and the band continued to play several shows a year. In 2004 the two original founders of the band, Lloyd Heath and Glen Hayes were put back together by a desire to do a gospel music project. It clicked. They enlisted the help of former band mates Ben Gibson and Bobby Karnes for a little help. After 22 shows and dates in six months the guys sat back and looked into what had happened. They had come full circle since 1994.

The band is available for bookings. Call Lloyd Heath at 865-933-7400 for more information.
